Hello, I’m Vivian Shin.
Nice to meet you, Ogilvy.
You're tasked with creating a time capsule that captures the essence of you. What three objects, ideas, or artifacts do you include, and why? Responses can take the form of no more than a 250-word piece of writing or a creative output of your choice.
Here’s what’s in my box:
Don’t Forget About Me, Demos Dominic Fike
In this time capsule, you’re first greeted by a record with the music of my favorite song, "King of Everything" by Dominic Fike. Its smooth, old-school alternative vibe sets the tone—it's the only album I’ve downloaded on my phone and play on repeat during every flight. The lyrics resonate deeply, offering a moment of calm and reminding me to embrace life's chaos and relax, even for just a moment. Music reveals so much about a person, and this song captures that essence for me.
Canon G7X Mark II
Next, you’ll find a camera—my first "real" camera, one I begged my mom for back in 8th grade after seeing my favorite YouTubers use it. It's not just a camera; it represents the past (vlogs of family vacations), the present (moments with friends), and a vision for the future (the rest of my journey). I enjoy the idea that it’s practical and can be used by the opener to capture their own memories.
A Trip to Seoul, South Korea
Finally, there’s a plane ticket from Atlanta to Seoul. As a Korean American, this ticket represents the intersection of my heritage and identity. While I feel at home in Korea, surrounded by my culture, I also deeply cherish my roots in Atlanta, the city where I grew up. This ticket symbolizes my love for both countries and my passion for travel, bridging my two worlds and the adventures that shape me.
